SARAH TILFORD plays Alma

Sarah is honored to be working with The Unrehearsed Shakespeare Company for the very first time. After two years of children’s theatre, playing such rolls as Wendy in Peter Pan and The Genie in Aladdin, it’s been rather refreshing to perform in something with a little more meat. Sarah has admired Shakespeare’s work for years and enjoyed playing characters like Stephano in The Tempest, Helena in A Midsummer Nights Dream, and Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. This has been an enjoyable and educational experience for her and she hopes to work with this company again in the future. Sarah would like to thank her incredibly supportive family, her amazing friends, and her love, Andrew, who probably has this script memorized better than her.

ALMA, the Governess of Persia (who handles, among other things, orphans and servants), has risen about as high as a woman can in the Sultan’s misogynist nation, and her desire to see the land well-run is perpetually frustrated by a childish ruler. When she witnesses the power Scheherazade, a woman, can wield over her sovereign, Alma begins to hatch new ideas on how best to govern the nation.

“I’ll have that Prince, as she her Sultan Lord,
But while she ruleth over him, I’ll reign
Through mine and make myself an Emperess.”
Act III, Scene 1
